Managing flow assurance on subsea production assets has to take into account the potential for solids build-up, which could cause a partial or full blockage within the flow stream. While flow assurance measures may be in place to mitigate and prevent solids deposition along the flow-stream, in some circumstances, these may not fully protect the subsea system and wax, scale or gas hydrate may cause problems.

In-line inspection, outside line external inspection and pigging can all be deployed to detect, locate and quantify issues, but these require the support of subsea monitoring and sensing systems.

Ashtead Technology can deploy its extensive knowledge of pipeline sensing and pig location technologies to support flow assurance requirements, providing vital early information allowing timely intervention to mitigate or reduce the impact of pipeline intervention.

Ashtead Technology has in-house expertise in providing solutions to support the location of pipeline blockages externally through the pipe-wall using radiography and acoustic based technologies.

We can deploy our knowledge and experience of through-wall pipeline solids deposition to both locate and estimate the extent of the build-up, allowing rapid response to production issues, reducing production losses.

When running in-line inspection and pigging tools, there is a potential for the pig to become stuck due to an obstruction or pipe damage. Rapid location of the in-line tool and establishing the likely cause of it being stuck are important and require pre-planning, particularly when the pipeline has been in service for some time and where solids build-up is anticipated.
