Meet Lindsay, Hire Personnel Manager
Can you tell us a little bit about the Apprenticeship you did and your career path to where you are now?
I completed a 4-year Business Modern Apprenticeship, where I earned an HNC and HND in Business Administration. I started working in the Projects Department where I successfully completed my Apprenticeship. A year later, I transferred to the Hire Personnel Department as a Coordinator. Over time, I progressed to my current role as Hire Personnel Manager, where I manage all offshore crewing requirements.
Why did you decide to pursue an Apprenticeship over other more traditional learning paths?
- Before leaving school I did consider pursuing a full-time academic path. However, I realised that an Apprenticeship could offer me the best of both worlds – providing the opportunity to continue learning while earning money and gaining valuable work experience. The hands-on approach allowed me to apply what I was learning to real world situations, giving me a strong foundation for my future career.
What skills did you develop during your apprenticeship that helped you progress in your career?
- During my Apprenticeship working as part of a project team taught me the importance of meeting deadlines and how to prioritise tasks. I learned the value of teamwork and how everyone plays a crucial role in achieving the overall end goal. I enhanced my communication skills by interacting directly with customers on a daily basis.
What advice would you share with someone who is considering any type of Apprenticeship?
- Go for it and stay committed! Whenever an opportunity arises to gain experience in a different department or take the next step in your career, seize it. You never know – it could turn out to be one of the best decisions you make. Every step forward can lead to even greater opportunities down the line, so make the most of them!
Meet Stephanie, HSEQ Manager
Can you tell us a little bit about the Apprenticeship you did and your career path to where you are now?
- I started as a Business Modern Apprentice where I had the opportunity to rotate through various operational departments within the business before securing a permanent position in the HSEQ department. From there, I continued to build my skills and experience, taking on new challenges and responsibilities. This progression eventually led me to HSEQ Manager, the role I hold today.
Why did you decide to pursue an Apprenticeship over other more traditional learning paths?
- The opportunity to continue learning and advancing my education while gaining valuable work experience within a company was highly appealing. At the time, I wasn’t sure which department or career path I wanted to pursue, so the rotational aspect was particularly attractive. It allowed me to explore different areas, identify my strengths, and determine where I could focus my development moving forward.
What skills did you develop during your apprenticeship that helped you progress in your career?
- During my apprenticeship, I developed key skills in communication and teamwork. With the rotational approach, I gained a well-rounded understanding of the company’s operations and how each department works together too. I learned that successful outcomes are achieved through strong collaboration and support across teams.
What advice would you share with someone who is considering any type of Apprenticeship?
- I would suggest to anyone to absolutely go for it! An apprenticeship offers incredible opportunities to not only enhance your knowledge and continue your education, but also to gain valuable experience across different roles and business functions at the same time. It really helps you discover what you’re truly passionate about.
