Riser and umbilical pull-in

Challenge

Ashtead Technology was tasked with delivering a comprehensive topside pull-in winch package to support an eight well development in the Gulf of Mexico.

Our team designed a tailored solution that involved the fabrication, supply and deployment of highly specialised linear winch and hydraulic drum winch packages to successfully complete the pull-in of the steel catenary risers (SCRs) and the dynamic umbilical.

Solution

Over 400 tonnes of steel was fabricated and machined to meet the customers specific requirements. Each piece of equipment was customised to ensure maximum efficiency and durability throughout the project.

  • 2 x ACE 500 Tonne Linear Winch packages c/w frameworks, flagging sheaves and spooling systems
  • 2 x ACE 75 tonne Steering Winch packages c/w grillages, overboarding sheaves and subsea sheaves
  • 1 x ACE 50 tonne Umbilical Winch package c/w grillage and overboarding sheave
  • Multiple ACE Diesel Hydraulic Power Units with capacity up to 320kW

Results and impact

Successfull pull-in operations with design loads in excess of 350 tonnes:

  • 1 x export oil SCR
  • 1 export gas SCR
  • 2 x production SCRs
  • 1 x gas lift SCR
  • 1 x dynamic umbilical

Our in-house team of engineers have a vast project track record of delivering innovative concepts for riser installations.

The ability of our team to design, engineer and fabricate bespoke equipment ensured that the customers’ exact specifications were met.

Our wide range of winches allowed for precise positioning and tension control during operations.

The size and capacity of our testing facility allowed for the replication of onsite project configurations to fully test all equipment packages prior to mobilisation.

A dedicated project management team and offshore personnel ensured smooth installation and successful completion of all pull-in activities.
