Decommissioning six-point mooring spread for Brent

Overview

The Brent field, located 270 nautical miles north-east of Aberdeen, produced around three billion barrels of oil equivalent since production started in 1976.

As part of the Brent Delta decommissioning project, the 24,000te topsides was removed from the platform by a single lift vessel (SLV) and transferred to the 200-metre Iron Lady barge. Our customer’s challenge was to then safely transfer the topsides from the Iron Lady barge onto the quay at their specialist facilities in the North East of England.

Solution

ACE Winches successfully mobilised a six-point mooring system to anchor the Iron Lady Barge, maintaining its position during operations to allow the transfer of the topsides from the barge to quayside for recycling.
