Accurate survey capabilities are the backbone of offshore projects, enabling teams to fully understand both the seabed and the water column before any underwater task is performed. Ashtead Technology specialises in turnkey solutions that deliver survey equipment packages ready for immediate deployment, including equipment for environmental monitoring, geophysical, hydrographic, metocean, positioning, ROV sensors, non-destructive testing and remote visual inspection systems.
Underpinning the delivery of these integrated survey spreads is subject matter expert, Scott Bunker. As Lead Survey and Robotics Technician, Scott supports our customers to ensure optimum performance across the entire survey and robotics fleet, providing deployment support, troubleshooting and technical training.
Working across a broad range of specialist equipment and tailoring that to the customer’s unique conditions requires deep expertise and hands-on experience: “No two projects are the same,” says Scott. “Site conditions and survey requirements can differ significantly, so I work closely with our customers from the outset to ensure that the right kit is selected and that it is fully integrated across the spread.”
“Deploying the wrong system, or using it incorrectly, can compromise safety, data quality and timelines,” explains Scott. “Our customers count on us to not only supply equipment, but to deliver reliability and peace of mind throughout their subsea survey missions and this is where my skills come into play. I’m one of the first points of contact when our survey equipment is operational.”
Scott is there to answer any technical queries and guide clients through system configuration, operation and troubleshooting. “Recently, a customer experienced performance issues with their Ultra-Short Baseline (USBL) system onboard their vessel. I mobilised to site and inspected the system and identified that an incorrect setup was the root cause. After making adjustments to their USBL configuration, the issue was quickly resolved. That’s just one example of the technical support I can provide,” shares Scott.

Scott champions operational excellence across Ashtead Technology’s global survey operations, collaborating closely with regional teams. “I work with our regional teams to make sure that we maintain global consistency and the highest quality in our procedures and processes,” says Scott, “and I regularly visit the different regional offices to liaise with customers, coordinate Factory Acceptance Testing and to support during the delivery of large project spreads.”
Training is a cornerstone of Scott’s influence where he develops and leads technical training sessions for customers, ensuring they are well-equipped to operate complex survey systems safely and proficiently. “Our training courses go far deeper than simple demonstrations. We combine theory with hands-on practice to build both competence and confidence in survey and robotics systems.”
Scott isn’t just supporting operations, he’s safeguarding Ashtead Technology’s reputation as a leader in high-performance, mission-critical subsea and survey solutions. In an industry where precision and safety are non-negotiable, Scott’s expertise ensures Ashtead Technology offers more than rental equipment, it delivers solutions grounded in technical knowledge and operational excellence.
