Meet Lindsay, Hire Personnel Manager

Can you tell us a little bit about the Apprenticeship you did and your career path to where you are now?

I completed a 4-year Business Modern Apprenticeship, where I earned an HNC and HND in Business Administration. I started working in the Projects Department where I successfully completed my Apprenticeship. A year later, I transferred to the Hire Personnel Department as a Coordinator.  Over time, I progressed to my current role as Hire Personnel Manager, where I manage all offshore crewing requirements.

Why did you decide to pursue an Apprenticeship over other more traditional learning paths?

• Before leaving school I did consider pursuing a full-time academic path. However, I realised that an Apprenticeship could offer me the best of both worlds – providing the opportunity to continue learning while earning money and gaining valuable work experience. The hands-on approach allowed me to apply what I was learning to real world situations, giving me a strong foundation for my future career.

What skills did you develop during your apprenticeship that helped you progress in your career?

• During my Apprenticeship working as part of a project team taught me the importance of meeting deadlines and how to prioritise tasks.  I learned the value of teamwork and how everyone plays a crucial role in achieving the overall end goal. I enhanced my communication skills by interacting directly with customers on a daily basis.

What advice would you share with someone who is considering any type of Apprenticeship?

• Go for it and stay committed! Whenever an opportunity arises to gain experience in a different department or take the next step in your career, seize it. You never know – it could turn out to be one of the best decisions you make. Every step forward can lead to even greater opportunities down the line, so make the most of them!
