Ashtead Technology Enhances Shallow Water Survey Capabilities with Addition of Ping DSP 3DSS-iDX-PRO to Rental Fleet
27 May 2025
Helping our customers tackle challenges in shallow water mapping and imaging, Ashtead Technology has added the Ping DSP 3DSS-iDX-PRO to its rental portfolio, further investing in our commitment to delivering best-in-class subsea survey solutions.
Purpose-built for shallow water operations, the 3DSS-iDX-PRO offers ultra-wide swathe coverage, enabling efficient, large-scale data acquisition, delivering both operational efficiency and cost savings.

Phil Middleton, Ashtead Technology Head of Survey and Robotics comments: “What truly differentiates this system is its ability to generate true 3D imagery from sidescan sonar, capturing real-time data and allowing for accurate measurement of features on the seabed and in the water column. The 3DSS-iDX-PRO sets a new standard for subsea imaging and bathymetry in shallow water.”
James Moss, Ping DSP Hydrographic Business Director adds: “The Ping 3DSS sonar was developed using CAATI (Computed Angle-of-Arrival Transient Imagery) technology and provides accurate ultra-wide swath bathymetry, enhanced 2D sidescan imagery and 3D sidescan imagery in the form of a high resolution lidar-like point cloud. The three co-registered, simultaneous data outputs enable fast, efficient surveys in shallow waters. We are excited that Ashtead Technology has added the Ping 3DSS-iDX-PRO to its rental portfolio, and we look forward to providing our customers with a rental option.“
This latest investment underscores Ashtead Technology’s commitment to providing our customers with the most advanced and capable subsea technologies.
