Gas Export Pipeline Shore Pull
Challenge
Our customer required a shore pull solution for the shallow water installation of a Gas Export pipeline on the Darwin Pipeline Duplication (DPD) project in northern Australia.
The DPD project involves the extension of the existing Barossa Gas Export pipeline to the onshore Darwin LNG facility.

Solution
Ashtead Technology were contracted to supply an 800Te Linear Winch spread with socket passing capability suitable for use with 121mm diameter wire rope.
To execute the shore pull operation seamlessly, the pull head of the pipeline was rigged to the pull wire. This setup enabled the pipeline to be progressively pulled ashore from the pipelay vessel using our 800Te Linear Winch spread, which was positioned onshore and aligned with the pre-constructed trench.
Our high-capacity 800Te Linear Winch provided precise tension control and enabled the efficient transfer of the pipeline from the vessel to land.
Results and Impact
Backed by Ashtead Technology’s integrated service model, including equipment, engineered solutions and personnel, the project benefited from streamlined logistics and execution.
Our success completing the previous shore pull project with the pipelay barge in Malaysia meant we entered this project with demonstrable experience
