David Mair, business development director at Ashtead Technology recently teamed up with friends at BP to take part in a gruelling one day physical challenge in aid of local charity, Home Start.
David, along with Peter Miller, David Hatfield and Nick Hewitt, took on the 2017 Rat Race Coast to Coast challenge which saw the team travel across Scotland from Nairn to Glencoe.
The group started their journey at 6am with a seven mile run to their bikes before riding 85 miles, taking on a 14 mile run over the mountains of Glencoe and finishing off with a mile of kayaking.
David said: “It’s a full-on day that does require a decent amount of training, but knowing you are doing it for a very worthwhile cause gave us all plenty of power and encouragement to carry on.”
In total, the team travelled 105 miles and climbed nearly 11,000 feet raising more than £4,000 in the process. BP kindly offered to match all donations, bringing the total (including Gift Aid) to nearly £9,000.
Home Start, a leading family support charity, helps families with young children deal with a variety challenges. Its volunteers support parents in the comfort of their own home with weekly visits helping with issues such as mental health and bereavement.
“It’s good to give back to the communities we work and live in. Home Start does some fantastic work in Aberdeen, supporting families in a number of aspects and I know the donations raised will go a long way in helping them continue their valuable work,” David added.
