ACE Active Heave Compensation

The ocean surface is in continuous motion, presenting problems when operating vessel mounted equipment such as winches. The motion of the vessel is transferred to the load deployed on the winch, making tasks such as interfacing with seabed structures or deploying onto the sea difficult, and even dangerous, in heavy seas. This can restrict operations to short weather windows, causing expensive delays to operations.

Our Active Heave Compensation is a sophisticated system designed to maintain precise control of the winch hook load, regardless of challenging conditions. It ensures the constant and steady deployment or retrieval of the load, even in dynamic environments where movement caused by waves or vessel motion could otherwise disrupt operations.

Incorporates a Motion Reference Unit (MRU) to measure vertical displacements of the winch over boarding point, compensating for vessel movements by controlling the winch’s in-and-out motion.

Real-time continuous monitoring of vessel motions, comparing actual motions to system compensation capability to provide indication of system ability to provide full compensation of current motions prior to or during deployments.

The AHC system has in-built diagnostic functions to enable fault detection, troubleshooting, remote diagnostics and adjustments to the control system.

Automatic depth safety feature prevents excessive deployment of wire rope, averting seabed impact during automated deployment operations.

The ability to safely overboard equipment by maintaining stable load control despite vessel motion

  • Over boarding A-frames
  • Moonpool area
  • Ancillaries to support over boarding
  • Minimises downtime caused by adverse weather conditions, expanding the operational timeframe
  • Enhances precision by mitigating the influence of wave motion
  • Lowers the risk of equipment damage from snatch loads and slack wire, prolonging equipment lifespan
  • Cuts down on vessel idle time
  • Widens the operational weather window giving greater cost effectiveness
  • Improved operational efficiency
  • Active Heave Compensation compensates to counter vessel movement  meaning safer load handling
  • Has a small footprint delivering a winch drive arrangement using minimum deck space
  • Extended component life
