Founded in 1985, Ashtead Technology has become a world-leading, independent subsea equipment solutions specialist providing rental and sale of survey and ROV equipment, engineered measurement solutions, offshore personnel, training, calibration, repair and maintenance and asset management solutions. Positioned at the forefront of technology and innovative solutions, Ashtead strives to provide a one-stop-shop for cost effective solutions to maximise performance with high quality service and delivery.
Ashtead Technology opens new Singapore facility
Opening in 1994, Ashtead Technology opens its facility in Singapore, allowing roll-out of its full service offering to clients across Asia Pacific.
Ashtead Technology opens new Houston facility
Opening in 1997, Ashtead Technology opens its facility in Houston, allowing roll-out of its full service offering to clients across North and Central America.
Ashtead Technology moves to new purpose-built facility in Westhill
Ashtead Technology relocates its global headquarters to Westhill, Aberdeen. The move doubled the company’s capacity incorporating offices, warehouse, maintenance workshops and a specialised calibration laboratory.
Ashtead Technology training academy launched
A first-of-its-kind subsea training academy was launched in Aberdeen in the world-renowned subsea centre of excellence at Westhill.
The subsea technology training academy was created to meet global demand for improved competency in the configuration, operation and maintenance of increasingly sophisticated equipment required in more complex subsea oil and gas projects in deeper waters and hostile locations around the world.
The courses available cover the basics and the more complex functioning of offshore survey equipment, acoustic positioning and motion sensing systems, hydrographic and geophysical survey equipment, cable and pipe detection and tracking systems and ROV sensors and multiplexers.
Ashtead Technology became the first subsea services company to be accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS)
This official seal of approval from UKAS demonstrates that Ashtead Technology delivers professional and technically competent calibration of survey, positioning and oceanographic sensors crucial to their customers’ subsea operations.
UKAS assesses a laboratory’s calibration and measurement capability to produce precise and accurate test results by scrutinising the technical competence of staff, the validity of the test methods, and equipment used through a vigorous audit and validation process.
Buckthorn Partners, Arab Petroleum Investments Corporation (APICORP) and Souter Investments acquired Ashtead Technology
The undisclosed funding package from Buckthorn a London-based investment firm, and APICORP a financial institution established by the ten-member countries of the Organisation of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries and Souter Investments, allows Ashtead Technology to further expand its service offering through both organic and acquisition lead growth. The investment also enables Ashtead Technology to expand its geographical reach, with the Middle East being a particular area of interest and focus for the company.
Ashtead Technology acquires Technical Equipment Services (TES), Abu Dhabi
Since being appointed in 2012 as agents to Ashtead Technology in the Middle East, Ashtead Technology acquired TES in December 2016. Having provided survey equipment and customer support in the UAE for over 17 years, TES is firmly established within the region. The deal allowed Ashtead Technology to roll-out its full service offering to clients in the region.
Joint venture completed with Forum Energy Technologies, Inc.
Ashtead Technology completed its joint venture with Forum Energy Technologies, Inc. As part of the transaction, Forum Energy Technologies contributed its subsea rentals business, which traded as Forum Subsea Rentals, creating the industry’s leading, independent provider of subsea survey and ROV equipment rental services.
Ashtead Technology acquires Welaptega Marine
Ashtead Technology further bolstered its rapidly-expanding inspection, maintenance and repair services and capabilities with the acquisition of Canadian-based underwater inspection company, Welaptega.
Founded in 1990, Welaptega is a market leader in mooring system inspection and integrity engineering. Over the past 28 years it has developed a suite of pioneering technologies and services to mitigate failure, prevent damage, and manage the ongoing integrity of offshore operations through a risk-based approach to asset integrity.
By bringing together two world-class portfolios, the deal strengthened the group’s subsea inspection capabilities, creating a wider, more competitive offering, whilst reinforcing Ashtead’s position as a leader in the provision of advanced offshore equipment solutions.
Ashtead Technology acquires Aqua-Tech Solutions
Ashtead Technology acquires Louisiana based subsea equipment rental and cutting services specialist, Aqua-Tech Solutions, as part of the company’s international growth plans in the USA.
The combined business will see clients in the Gulf of Mexico region benefit from a robust and enhanced offering, allowing more timely and cost-effective access to the group’s full range of equipment and services from locations in Broussard and Houma, Louisiana.
The acquisition significantly strengthened Ashtead Technology’s ROV and mechanical tooling offering, broadening its already well-established survey sensor rental fleet. It also sees the firm’s specialist subsea services capability extended with the introduction of subsea cutting equipment.
Buckthorn Partners and APICORP increase investment in Ashtead Technology
Forum Energy Technologies (FET) sold its interest in Ashtead Technology which it acquired in January 2018 as part of the transaction which resulted in a merger between FET’s subsea rentals business and Ashtead. The merger created the industry’s largest independent provider of subsea survey and ROV equipment rental services.
Ashtead Technology acquires Underwater Cutting Solutions
Ashtead Technology further expanded its inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) and decommissioning capabilities with the acquisition of Underwater Cutting Solutions (UCS) for an undisclosed sum. The transaction further demonstrates Ashtead’s commitment to providing a wider subsea equipment and IMR services offering to its clients.
